Whispering Firs Bog Tour
Every spring, the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust leads tours of Whispering Firs Bog. This delicate and precious “mini forest” is one of a few remaining sphagnum bogs in the lowland Puget Sound.
2026 Tour Schedule
This year we are offering four tours of The Bog, over Mother’s Day weekend. Tickets are $10* for both children and adults.
Tickets for 2026 will go on sale Thursday, April 23rd, at 9:00 am.
This tour is very popular, and space is limited. Please refrain from purchasing tickets this year if you have visited the bog in the past five years. We want all of our Island neighbors to be able to experience this special place at least once, and we can only let in a small number of folks annually, so we do not damage this ancient landscape.
*If you would like to attend the tour but cannot afford this admission fee, please email info@vashonlandtrust.org

Tour FAQs
-
The tour takes about an hour over a half mile of trail.
-
The trail has a few uneven surfaces (think rooty declines), some narrow bridges over the pond, and culminates on the moss, so conditions can range from dry to damp to WET. We recommend boots and hiking poles if you or your guests are a bit unsteady on their feet.
-
Dress for the weather! (Boots, rain gear if needed.) Birders may want to bring spotting scopes or binoculars, and shutterbugs may want to bring a camera: there is a lot to see here!
-
We recommend this tour for children over 10.
-
Sorry, dogs are not allowed on this tour. This is a very fragile ecosystem, and prime bird habitat!
