Open Call for Board of Directors Applications

Do you care deeply about the future of Vashon and Maury Islands’ wild and working lands?

We would love to chat with you!

Since 1990, the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust has worked with the community, private landowners, and government entities to conserve, restore, and steward our Island’s special places. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to make a lasting difference by helping to ensure a healthy and vibrant future for these lands and waters.

This is an especially exciting time to serve on the Land Trust Board. The past 30 years of careful management and stewardship of the organization have positioned the Land Trust to build on the success of our land conservation efforts, double down on stream and shoreline restoration, and pursue new, exciting strategic initiatives.

What It Means to Serve

Board members help guide VMILT’s vision and long-term strategy, safeguard its financial health, and serve as ambassadors for land conservation and stewardship in our community. Working in partnership with staff, fellow board members, and volunteers, you will help ensure that the Island’s natural wonder endures.

Board service includes:

  • Participating in monthly board meetings and an annual retreat

  • Serving on one or more committees

  • Assisting with fundraising initiatives and making a personally significant annual gift

  • Acting as a champion for conservation, restoration, and stewardship in the community

Board members serve three-year terms, and typically renew for one or more additional terms. This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Who Should Apply

We welcome individuals who bring curiosity, integrity, collaborative spirit, and a love of this Island. Experience in conservation, finance, law, land use, nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or community engagement is valuable — but just as important is a commitment to thoughtful governance and the long-term care of our unique Island ecosystem. We want to encourage applicants from all backgrounds and experiences who share our passion for conservation.

If you are ready to help protect the lands and waters that sustain our community, we invite you to apply!
