The Nature of Our Times - Poetry Event

  • Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust 10014 Southwest Bank Road Vashon, WA, 98070 United States (map)

Join us on January 13th, 2026, 5–7 PM for a special poetry reading celebrating The Nature of Our Times: Poems on America's Lands, Waters, Wildlife, and Other Natural Wonders—a shared initiative featuring over 200 voices from artists, ecologists, academics, and Indigenous communities all across North America.

Featured readers include:

  • Derek Sheffield, Washington State Poet Laureate

  • David Hassler, co-editor of the anthology

  • Several anthology contributors, including Lara Volski and Ching-In Chen

  • Vashon Island poets, including Ann Spiers, Margaret Roncone, Sandra Noel, and Mary G. L. Shackelford

  • With an introduction by Phillip Levin, director of The Nature Record and a Vashon Island local

Poetry won't solve everything—but speaking aloud shifts what we notice, what we value, and what we're willing to defend. This is an invitation to stay connected and remember that the future is something we shape together.
