Don has been NW Director at American Farmland Trust and E.D. for the Washington Association of Conservation Districts and Salmon For Washington. He was an attorney, commercial fisherman, boatbuilder, initiative campaign manager and candidate for Congress.

He is author of six books: No Farms No Food: Uniting Farmers and Environmentalists to Transform American Agriculture (Island Press, 2022), Barnyards and Birkenstocks: Why Farmers and Environmentalists Need Each Other (WSU Press, 2014), Final Adjournment: A Washington Statehouse Mystery (Epicenter Press, 2017), Suspension of the Rules: A Washington Statehouse Mystery (Northwest Corner Books, 2021), Small Claims Court Guide for Washington (Self-Counsel Press, 2003), and CLEDEX, the Index to Continuing Legal Education in WA (by subscription, 1986). He has experience with legal and nonprofit issues, land protection, and natural resources public policy.

Don serves on the Conservation and Development and Communications Committees.
